Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She received an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing to be a part of New York City. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell joined CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was promoted to Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. 1980 began her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Then, in 1992 she was named Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell is a regular in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell was a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as fiscal tax reforms, as well as arms control. She traveled with Ronald Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss issues such as and the Iran Contra controversy.
